Do you have a pile of t-shirts you’ve collected over the years from concerts and special events that you just don’t wear anymore but you don’t want to get rid of them either? Or maybe you have a pile of baby clothes that you just can’t bring yourself to part with. Why not make them into a quilt?
Join us for a very unique 1 day class on how to make a tied t-shirt quilt or baby clothes quilt! The very lovely Patricia King will be joining us again to teach this class so gather up your clothes and Let’s Make a T-Shirt Quilt!
This class is specifically for a Tee Shirt/Sweat Shirt quilt or Baby Memory Quilt. The Tee Shirt/Sweat Shirt quilt and Baby Memory Quilt are improvised so there is scope to customise the size, however additional fabrics will be required. Tee Shirt Quilt is suitable for beginners, Baby Memory Quilt is for the intermediate and experienced.
Supplies You’ll Need for the Course
Supplies You’ll need for the T-Shirt Quilt:
- Minimum 12 Tees makes approx 44”x 48” (112cm x 122cm) Fewer Tees will require more fabric
- Maximum 35 Tees makes approx 60” x 84” (150 x 210)
- Knit fusible interfacing- allow 40cm per 4 Tees + 40cm. eg, for 12 Tees, 1.6m x 150cm wide
- Fabric to co-ordinate with Tees 3 different designs x 50cm (112 wide) each
- OPTIONAL Fabric to contrast for sashing 1.5-2.5m. Sashing is strips of fabric framing all the blocks, I did not do this in the example.
- Thread to blend eg black, grey, navy
- Finishing (May be completed at home, instructions given)
- OPTIONAL Pellon lightweight batting. I will help you calculate what you need.
- Polar Fleece backing 1.5-2.5m 150cm wide.
- Matching or contrasting DMC stranded cotton x 2-3 hanks, or 25gr yarn to tie
- Students can bring extra fabrics if they are short of Tees so simple blocks can make up the shortfall
- Other basic quilting supplies – rotary cutter, 12×24 inch quilting ruler, pins etc. I stock all of these supplies here.
Supplies You’ll need for the Baby Memory Quilt:
- Quilt size 36” x 45” (90cm x 115cm).
- This quilt can be made with new fabric or squares cut from clothes. 20 x 25cm (10”) squares are required.
- 7-10 baby dresses, onesies, tees etc, hats, tights and other accessories may be suitable.
- At least 25 assorted buttons (from the cut up garments or novelty buttons)
- Matching threads
- 1.2m x 90cm wide iron on Pellon
- 1m x 150cm wide Polar fleece for backing
For both quilts
Please note: we will need a minimum of 5 participants for the class to go ahead
