Let’s Make a T-Shirt Quilt
Do you have a pile of t-shirts you’ve collected over the years from concerts and special events that you just don’t wear anymore but you don’t want to get rid of them either? Why not make them into a quilt?
Join us for a very unique 1 day class on how to make a tied t-shirt quilt! The very lovely Patricia King will be joining us again to teach this class so gather up your shirts and Let’s Make a T-Shirt Quilt!
This class is specifically for a Tee Shirt/Sweat Shirt quilt. It is improvised so there is some scope to customise the size, however additional fabrics will be required for edges and the back. This is a “tied” technique and isn’t quilted so it’s perfect for beginner sewers!
Supplies You’ll need:
- Minimum 12 Tees makes approx 36” x 48” (90cm x 122cm) quilt (if you are short on tees, you can bring along extra fabric so simple blocks can make up the shortfall)
- Maximum 35 Tees makes approx 60” x 84” (150cm x 210cm) quilt
- Fabric to co-ordinate with your Tees – 1m (min 112cm wide)
- Fabric to contrast for sashing/binding – 1.5-2.5m (min 112cm wide)
- Polar Fleece backing – 1.5-2.5m (min 150cm wide)
- Knit fusible interfacing – allow 40cm per 4 Tees + 40cm. (So for 12 Tees you’ll need 1.6m x 1.6m)
- Thread to blend into your colours (eg black, grey, navy)
- Matching or contrasting DMC stranded cotton or yarn to tiethe front and back together. Just one hank or 25gm yarn would be sufficient or you can bring along a collection of oddments if you want to use up some scraps and you don’t mind different colours.
- Other basic quilting supplies – rotary cutter, 12×24 inch quilting ruler, pins etc. I stock all of these supplies here.
